  Who are RMHC Malaysia?

RMHC Malaysia stands for the Ronald McDonald House Charities Malaysia. It was established in 15 February 1990 as Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities Fund of Malaysia.

As an independent not-for-profit organization, RMHC Malaysia receives support from McDonald’s Malaysia, but it also receives assistance from various corporations and individuals to enable it to achieve its mission to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of Malaysian children through health, education and welfare.

  Where did it all begin?

In 1974, the first Ronald McDonald House was established in Philadelphia, USA to enable families to be close to their seriously-ill children in hospital. This concept quickly grew across the McDonald’s global system and to date, there are nearly 300 local Ronald McDonald Houses in 30 countries – and it is still growing!


  What is the relationship with McDonald’s?

Because RMHC Malaysia is an independent not-for-profit organization, McDonald's Malaysia plays a vital role by covering all administration and management costs to ensure 100% of all donations to RMHC Malaysia can be spent on programs to help seriously ill children and their families.

RMHC Malaysia Coin Boxes are placed in every McDonald’s Malaysia restaurants to help raise funds for the organization. Every member of McDonald’s Malaysia is also involved in many local events in support of RMHC Malaysia.


  What kind of projects does RMHC Malaysia support?

Every sen donated to RMHC Malaysia will help make a difference in the lives of less fortunate children in Malaysia.

RMHC Malaysia's cornerstone program is the Ronald McDonald House located at Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (PPUKM, or the National University of Malaysia Medical Centre) in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. In addition, RMHC Malaysia supports the following:-

Ronald McDonald Sensory Room
Gift of Smile
Tunas Wawasan scholarship program
• In-kind support to families who have experienced natural catastrophes
• Direct grants to various Malaysian children’s welfare organizations during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali, Christmas and Lunar New Year


  How does RMHC Malaysia raise funds?

McDonald's Malaysia pays all administration and management costs for RMHC Malaysia. This means that 100% donation goes directly into RMHC Malaysia programs.

The main source of RMHC Malaysia’s fundraising project is the coin box program that can be found in all McDonald’s Malaysia stores. Special fundraising events also include its annual Charity Golf Championship, Charity Bowl and Charity Hunt.


  Why was the Ronald McDonald House established?

Medical experts believe that children recover faster with their families nearby. Many of these families live some distance away from the hospital and staying in local accommodations during their children’s treatment can be very costly. The Ronald McDonald House allows them to be close to their children and at the same time, help these families save money and time.


  How am I eligible for a place at the Ronald McDonald House-Pusat Perubatan
Universiti Kuala Lumpur?

The following criteria has to be met:
1) Children must be undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals and are under the age of 18.
2) Children and their families must be from outside the Klang Valley.


The Welfare Department of PPUKM helps to identify families whom they feel will most benefit from the facilities available and refer them accordingly.

  How can my child be eligible for the Gift of Smile program?

Priority is given to children who meet the following:
1) Children below the ages of 18, with either an untreated cleft lip or a cleft palate, or both.
2) Family income of RM2,000.00 or less.


RMHC Malaysia supports all costs incurred for corrective surgery and annual medical check-up related to the cleft lip/palate.


  How can students be eligible for the Tunas Wawasan scholarship program?

Form One students are encouraged to apply for assistance through their secondary school
principals who can contact the Ministry of Education.

On an annual basis, the Ministry of Education compiles the list of students and forwards them
to RMHC Malaysia. The board of committee for RMHC Malaysia will then collectively decide the
scholarship holders based on the following criteria:-
1) The student's UPSR results
2) The student’s financial need through disclosure of family income and number of the family’s dependants.
3) Leadership potential as demonstrated by the student's involvement in their primary and
secondary school’s extra-curricular activities and letters of recommendation from their
primary and secondary school principals and teachers.



  How can I help RMHC Malaysia?

1) Make a donation via the coin boxes available at your nearest McDonald's restaurant
2) Pledge a donation
3) Volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House at PPUKM at any time and day.
