RMHC – TROPICANA CHARITY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP 2006
Kuala Lumpur, 9 September 2006 - Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities Fund of Malaysia (RMHC) today held their 13th annual RMHC-Tropicana Charity Golf Championship. The tournament attracted a full field of 144 players and RMHC raised a sum of RM160,000 while the proceeds continue to be channeled towards the aid and support of less fortunate children in Malaysia.
In her speech, Puan Fadillah Yakin, the President of RMHC announced that, "Part of this year’s proceeds will be channeled towards an RMHC Snoezelen Room for Agape Centre - a centre in Sibu, Sarawak which provides for the children with special needs in Central Zone of Sarawak. In line with the government’s vision to develop a caring society in Malaysia, this centre houses the Association for children with special Needs Sibu, Sibu Autistic Centre, Special Olympics Sarawak, Clinic for Children with Special Needs (Lau King Howe Memorial Children Clinic), and Methodist Care Centre.”
Robert James Beard, Country Manager of McDonald’s Malaysia and the advisor of the RMHC Committee added, “Snoezelen is one of the therapies applied in the care of children with autism and developmental delay. Literatures have indicated the evidence of Snoezelen supporting a comprehensive care for these children. Matters like these have always caught the interest of RMHC, in this case the donation of an RMHC Snoezelen Room for Agape Centre, which is in line with RMHC’s objective to help make a difference in the lives of the many children in our country, especially the underprivileged children. Essential support from Agape Centre has been equally outstanding in the form of their effort for training and clinical attachment of Clinic Therapists to ensure the successful implementation of this therapy in Sibu – the first of its kind in Sarawak."
Besides the golf, Family Activities were also organized. Children and families of golfers took part in the activities - body art, face painting, t-shirt painting, carnival games while being entertained by Ronald McDonald’s appearance. 20 children from Rumah Keluarga Kami were invited to join in the fun. The home received a RM5,000 donation from RMHC at the event.
Fadillah said, "This has been an exciting time for the sponsors, golfers, and all involved. Well, what more if it’s done for the less fortunate children in Malaysia”.
