RMHC COMES TO THE AID OF FLOOD VICTIMS IN BATU PAHAT

On 25th January 2007, in aid of families who were affected by the recent floods in Johor, McDonald’s Malaysia, RMHC and RMHC volunteers and supporters organised a visit to several flood relief centres in Batu Pahat to help ease the burden of parents whose children lost their school things in the floods.

In the true spirit of volunteerism, some 50 McDonald’s Head Office staff, RMHC staff and McDonald’s Johor crew and managers rallied together to help Batu Pahat’s flood victims. The team visited relief centers in Batu Pahat distributing much needed aid to the school children at the relief centers. Several artistes and celebrities also showed their care by volunteering their time at the event. The celebrities who joined in this visit included RMHC Ambassador, Miss Malaysia/ World 2004/2005, Gloria Ting as well as RMHC’s celebrity friends like Dina who is the Malaysian Idol I Finalist, Kumpulan Fabulous Catz and Kumpulan MIX.

Fifteen volunteers in eight four-wheel drive vehicles, courtesy of ASTRA - The Malay Amateur Radio Society Northern Peninsular Malaysia (Persatuan Radio Amatur Melayu Utara Semenanjung Malaysia) convoyed the group of volunteers. The team visited flood victims staying at various relief centers such as Sekolah Agama Sri Medan, Sekolah Agama Kampung Istana, Masjid Broleh, Sekolah Agama Sengkuang and Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Raja.

In aid of the flood victims, McDonald’s and RMHC gave the children stationery sets, t-shirts, school bags, baby toiletries, baby clothes, diapers and McDonald’s food and beverages. RMHC would like to thank McDonald’s customers who have donated their loose change into the RMHC coin boxes at McDonald’s outlets throughout Malaysia, especially for the month of December 2006 and January 2007. The collection from the RMHC coin boxes totaling RM80,000 from these two months was pledged into the Batu Pahat Flood Relief Campaign. In addition, McDonald’s Malaysia donated a further RM20,000 to the fund while McDonald’s APMEA donated another RM50,000.
