Press Conference of RMHC - Tropicana Golf Championship 2007Kuala Lumpur, 4 September 2007 - Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities (RMHC) Fund of Malaysia today held a press conference for their upcoming annual RMHC-Tropicana Charity Golf Championship. Attracted a full field of 126 players in the previous year, RMHC raised a sum of RM 175,270.53 in 2006 and the proceeds were channeled towards the aid and support of less fortunate children in Malaysia. The proceeds of this year’s event will be for RMHC’s on-going project to build Ronald McDonald Sensory Rooms in selected care centres for children with learning disabilities. In her speech, Puan Fadillah Yakin, the President of RMHC announced that, "The charity golf this year will be held on 10 November at Tropicana Golf & Country Club, and this year marks the 14th year of the RMHC annual charity golf championship. A range of programs have been planned, together with Family Activities so golfers can bring along their family and friends." She further elaborated, “The establishment of the Ronald McDonald Sensory Room is in line with RMHC’s objective to help make a difference in the lives of children in our country. With the existence of the Ronald McDonald Sensory Room, disabled children will be able to have an improved quality of life and thus, benefiting their families in the long run.” Invited to the press conference was Prof. Madya Dr. Sharifah Zainiyah binti Syed, President of Persatuan Sindrom Down Malaysia (PSDM) - a beneficiary of a Ronald McDonald Sensory Room - who congratulated RMHC’s efforts “…to build more Ronald McDonald Sensory Room throughout Malaysia for the simple reason that this endeavour shall lead to the children’s further development. This is especially so for children who are intellectually challenged such as children with Down syndrome, Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder and Slow Learners. In the past these children were not given much opportunities to develop themselves but with more awareness and focus…they are being exposed to more opportunities and assistive and augmentative devices and therapies to enable them to enjoy a better quality of life. A good example is through Ronald McDonald Sensory Room which Persatuan Sindrom Down Malaysia receive from RMHC about 2 months ago.” This year will be an exciting event for golfers with an Audi TT as the hole-in-one prize. So keep a watch for 10 November as golfers tee away for charity!
