RMHC-TROPICANA CHARITY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP 2005

Sunday, September 11, 2005, Selangor – A total of 144 golfers teed-off at 7.45 am at the Tropicana Golf & Country Resort with a single objective: to help the less fortunate children of Malaysia achieve their fullest potential. The event was the RMHC-Tropicana Charity Golf Championship. This is the twelfth year that RMHC is organizing a charity golf championship and funds raised from this championship will be channelled directly by RMHC to causes benefitting children in need of a helping hand.

RMHC President, Fadillah Yakin in her speech announced that the event raised about RM 180 000. The proceeds will be channelled to RMHC’s on-going projects in support of health and education for less fortunate children. She said this year RMHC is building a Ronald McDonald Snoezelen Therapy Room for the special children of Bethany Home in Perak. This room is fully equipped with special facilities that will enable mentally handicap children to develop better use of their sensory faculties. The room will be launched this November.

In education, under the RMHC scholarship program, Tunas Wawasan, RMHC presently assists 125 Secondary School students from low income families.

As part of the day’s activities, a Family and Children’s program was also organized. While the golfers competed, their children and spouses had fun with activities such as Face Painting, Body Art, Handicraft Contest and Coloring Contest. Ronald McDonald performed a special show followed by a photography and autograph session with the children.

All golfers received goody bags worth RM 600. The Hole-in-One prize was a sleek Rexton RX270Xdi sponsored by Ssang Yong. Although no one managed the hole-in-one, other prizes worth over RM 10,000 were given out to winners this year.

Fadillah Yakin added, “This year marks RMHC's 15th anniversary and I am very happy that RMHC has received encouraging support from generous organizations and individuals. These proceeds will definitely help more children in the country and provide them the opportunity to realize their fullest potential.”
