RMHC’S SCHOOL HOLIDAY TRIP FOR SCHOLARSHIP HOLDERS

Tunas Wawasan students commemorate their visit to Ronald McDonald House HUKM

Kuala Lumpur, 15 September 2002 – The Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities Fund of Malaysia or RMHC treated students under its scholarship program called Tunas Wawasan to a school holiday educational visit to Kuala Lumpur. Twenty-two students from Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah, Perlis, Kelantan, Trengganu and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur were brought to Kuala Lumpur for the three-day program. The students were given accomodation at a hotel in Subang Jaya, Selangor. They were taken to visit various places of interest in the Klang Valley including Muzium Negara, Pusat Sains, Muzium Kesenian Islam, Kuala Lumpur City Center and Putrajaya. A special visit to the Ronald McDonald House at Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia was also included.

The students experimenting with the water turbine during their visit to Pusat Sains Negara The three day visit from 12 to 15 September 2002, was organized in order for the students to get to know each other in a fun and educational environment. During a special dinner held on their final night in Kuala Lumpur, RMHC President Puan Fadillah Yakin said, “Tunas Wawasan RMHC is a special scholarship program. Apart from helping them with their education expenses throughout their secondary school, we want the children to feel part of our McFamily and for that, we make an effort to meet with them as a group and also arrange for them to have educational visits during school holidays. The visits are aimed at giving them an opprtunity to get to know us and each other better as well as gain experience and exposure by visiting interesting, educational places.”

During the special dinner also, the students were given the opportunity to put up group performances to show off their talents. The audience was impressed with the impromptu performances, especially by Form I student adik Asyraf bin Maskan from Sekolah Menengah Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar, Johor who recited a beautiful poem called “Bangsaku.”

Also present at the special dinner were, RMHC’s Advisor, Encik Mohamed Shah bin Tan Sri Abdul Kadir and other committee members of RMHC.
