RMHC Charity Hunt 2002 - August 3, 2002PENANG, 3 August 2002 - The Ronald McDonald Children's Charities Fund of Malaysia or RMHC held a Charity Hunt today with the theme "Dare For A Challenge? Find Me! Ronald". Winners of the hunt received prizes worth a total of RM 16 000. The hunt was divided into two categories: regulars and novices. The first prize in the regular category was worth RM 4,000.00 while the champion in the novices category walked away with RM 1,500.00 in cash and other prizes. Prizes were given away to the winners during a Prize Presentation Dinner held at The Holiday Inn Resort, Batu Feringghi, Penang. Puan Fadillah Yakin, President of RMHC, officially flagged the participants off from McDonald's Drive-Thru Section 3, Shah Alam early this morning. About 112 people in 34 cars participated in the hunt. A total of RM 14, 359.93 net was collected through this event. The Hunt package was inclusive of a one-night stay at Holiday Inn Resort Batu Feringghi, dinner, and breakfast as well as goody bags for just a donation of RM 180 per person.
During the prize giving dinner, to which RMHC invited children and officials of the home, a donation of RM 2,000 was also made to the home. The cheque was presented by Puan Fadillah Yakin to the President of the home, Mr. K. Ramakrishnan. The ten children from the home were also invited to spend the night at the Holiday Inn, a rare treat for them. Puan Fadillah Yakin said, "On behalf of RMHC, I am happy that we were able to touch the lives of these children today and hope that participants got an opportunity to interact directly with the children in the home. Children, after all, are the only reason we set up RMHC in 1990". Chairman of this year's Charity Hunt, Mr. Harjit Singh said "We had a fun and challenging hunt this year! On top of all the excitement, we hope that we have also given participants and sponsors an opportunity to help the needy directly through this hunt." Team Cryptically Challenged won the first prize for the Regular Category while Team Lost, Tired & Hungry bagged the first prize in the Novice category. Team Lucky 4 and Team Rush won the second and third places in Regular category which entitled them to prizes worth RM 2,000 and RM 1,000 respectively. Meanwhile, among the novices, Team D Rascals won prizes worth RM1, 200 as the first runner up while Team Pristine Pirates won RM 800 as the second runner up. RMHC is a charity body established in February 1990 to help the less fortunate children in Malaysia lead a better life. As a caring society, RMHC assists children in education, health and social activities. RMHC has been providing assistance in numerous medical donations, scholarships and necessities such as libraries and playgrounds to homes, schools and hospitals. |

In line with the nature of this event, all the participants were required to stop at a special check-point: the Rumah Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Taiping. This is a home for 65 orphans from the ages of 8 to 20 years old and has been in existence since 1946. It was originally built to house the children of men who died building the Burmese Railway during the Japanese Occupation of Malaya. Participants donated cash and other necessities directly to the occupants of the home during the stop.
